Mardi Gras
Friday - Shopping for snacks and mixers, drinking in the room and then BITCH party, a short walk away from our hotel... we walked down Oxford St before realising this.... Dancing like nutcases... Took our shirts off because it was so hot in the club... And then SOMEONE suggested we take off our bras too. At this point we were dancing at the highest point of the club, a long table that was about about rib-height, which was parallel to the bar, and traversed almost the length of the club... so we took our bras off...
I have no idea how many pictures people took of us, but there are plenty of photos out there... probably on facebook somewhere...
Eep...
But it felt surprisingly liberating. I admit that we looked like the paid entertainment, and girls were ogling us from all sides... and it was so much cooler than wearing shirts.
The BITCH crew tried to do a lucky door prize, but no one claimed it... so they did a dancing competition instead. I won! I scored a free ticket to Sunday's party, subscription to LOTL, and a ticket to the official party on Saturday, which I sold.
Saturday - Ena and I went shopping up and down Oxford St. I tried on a real corset; very hot if I do say so myself... but I really couldn't move or breathe... and I couldn't afford the $350 pricetag either. We went back home for a nap, and then played some drinking games in the room, instead of going down to try to see the parade. We all got dressed up in our costumes and headed to Oxford St again... we couldn't find a lesbian bar per se, but we found one with awesome music and free entry. Danced on podiums, chatted to randoms, including one guy in pseudo-drag from Brazil.
Sunday - Relaxed most of the day, recovering from big nights on the previous couple. Anita and her sister stayed in, Sara had flown home, so it was just Ena and I that headed to the BITCH recovery. It was pretty packed still, and we saw Becky and Billy there. I also met up with a girl I met at Girlfest earlier this year. She was a bundle of laughs. We left about 12ish, to make sure we could still get up for our plane.
Monday - Got up to have breakfast at Darling Harbour, which was sooo good. Got our stuff, and got the train back to the airport and vamoosed.
I didn't get a chance to see the Opera House or the Harbour Bridge... AGAIN! But I'll make sure it happens sometime this year.
Other news
Hopefully I will be going up another rank in Taekwondo in April. I really should be working on that... but it doesn't seem all that important to me. I guess I'm more focussed on getting uni stuff done at the moment. It's hard enough finding the energy and motivation to do that work, let alone thinking about practising my sidekick or pattern.
Plus, I've got to find a more suitable job... one without work on weekends. I want to get a better social life dammit.
That, and I've got other things on my mind. Since finding out about my birth mother, it's been bothering me a little. I'm going to a meeting tonight. I hope it's not too intense. I don't know what to do about this whole thing. I'm not ready to deal with this huge emotional mass that will be unleashed once I open that door. It was strange enough when I flew into anger after discovering how close she and I lived.... I think I expected it to be so much harder to find her than it was...
